Minister of State, and Longford/Westmeath TD, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran is calling for a two week extension of the slurry spreading deadline.
Minister Moran said an extension is needed due to the poor weather of recent weeks. “Farmers are having great difficulty in being able to spread slurry before this weekend’s deadline of October 15th. I think it is only fair and reasonable that the extension be granted.”
“I know at first hand from travelling the country over the summer months that farmers were having difficulty in getting a few dry days to spread slurry,” said Minister Moran.
Minister Moran confirmed that he will be meeting with Agriculture Minister, Michael Creed tomorrow, Tuesday, when he will be discussing the matter with him. “I hope to convince Minister Creed of the need to extend the slurry spreading deadline,” said Minister Moran.
“I don’t believe the issue can be treated on a case-by-case basis and in previous years, there has been an extension granted where there has been poor weather,” said Minister Moran.
